LOFT Amsterdam | Eastern Docklands area (CLOSED)
LOFT Amsterdam recently opened their doors in one of the industrial buildings at KNSM laan on the KNSM island, another great addition to the few selected stores in the same street like Sissy Boy Homeland, Pols Potten and children department store Keet aan Huis. The Eastern Docklands is a great not to crowded residential area. As the formal harbour of Amsterdam, the North America line is still departing from here and many huge cruise ships can be seen from time to time. The many old industrial buildings and warehouses are perfectly blending with modern architecture on the different peninsulas and make the area to what it is.
LOFT Amsterdam offers a great selection of Scandinavian design and home accessories, Dutch design and fair trade home and fashion brands. In the basement larger interior items are placed in a home-like setting. More pictures can be found at my Interior design blog Vosgesparis

ETQ Amsterdam | Spui Area (CLOSED)
ETQ Amsterdam was born under the mindset of eliminating over accessorized branding and focusing primary on letting the quality of the product speak for itself. With three standard rules: elegant, timeless, and quality the brand, that was born as an idea in 2010 as a men's footwear label, now offers an array of clean, sophisticated and affordable products for both men and woman crafted by hand in a small factory in Portugal.
I visited their store in Amsterdam housed in a huge raw, yet elegant, space with lots of concrete where especially the huge blocks with different accessories and leather cushions caught my eye. More info about the brand can be found at the website ETQ Amsterdam

X BANK | Dam area
X BANK is a brand new cultural platform where art, design and fashion are sold in an exhibition like setting. Located at the bottom two floors of the former Kasbank, hence the name X BANK, and part of Hotel W Amsterdam it is the place to discover the work of 180 different Dutch labels.
At the ground floor and entrance an exhibition of various photography and art objects, while an installation made out of safe lockers filled with fake banknotes reveals the history of the building. A white spiral staircase leads to the first floor where the shop and restaurant are located.X BANK is more than just a shop, it is showcasing and selling the work of established Dutch designers like Marcel Wanders, Denham and Scotch & Soda to name a few next to smaller brands. The work of couturier Mattijs van Bergen’s is beautifully displayed, he also designed the uniforms of the hotel staff, and product designer Dirk van der Kooij is represented with his lamps, that you will also find at the lounge of the hotel.
Books, graphic design, photography, parfum, bags, ceramic and many more in all price ranges are sold, and the work of graduates of the Design Academy can be admired while you buy some flowers and wander around and get inspired. As an extra unexpected given everything is organized by colour, the common factor however is that everything sold and showcased at X Bank is by Dutch designers only.
From the shop you walk straight into restaurant ‘The Duches’ offering everything from breakfast to dinner and high tea to cocktails in a classic surrounding with marble and velvet. XBANK is the latest addition to Hotel W and the building includes additional rooms and a spa and gym. The main hotel is located right across the street from X BANK at Spui Straat, until now this part of Spui straat town has always been a bit of nowhere land, I guess it will fastly become a more lively area.
Hotel W Amsterdam must have one of Amsterdams best views, from the rooftop lounge you overlook the city centre, and the outside area has a swimming pool with a look on the royal palace.

Generator Amsterdam | East area
I have some good memories of sleeping at the Generator in London and always loved staying there as it was a really affordable option on a good location for that time in my life. Generator Amsterdam will open in March in the Eastern part of town located in a former zoological university building. Close to the city centre, the new upcoming east area and the Oosterpark with the grand cafe De Tropen just around the corner.
Flexible and spacious social areas, filled with creative design from Dutch designers like Blom & Blom, Mooi and Studio Job, their wallpaper by NLXL can be found throughout the building. The former lecture hall is turned into an impressive chill-out lounge and bar, while the old library is now a relaxation and private events room. The basement and café are now dining destinations and the original boiler room has become a secret late night bar.

The Cool Collective | Oostpoort | Oost
Love to show you some new pictures made today at the The cool collective, located at Oostpoort, the shopping area in the Eastern part of town. Lots of new stores are opening in East and over the last week I have been looking around to see what stores are interesting to cover on the blog and the APP and I hope to show you some more over the weekend.
Although there are only a few selected interior and home decor brands and the store is really big and has a pop up kind off feeling, it has a nice vibe and worth visiting if you happen to be in the area.
A good place for affordable fashion brands, lifestyle and vintage furniture by the Sample Club, ICatchy, Jan&Jacob and Frederik George who will have his workstation in the store making beautiful bags. Find brands like French Connection, Stoned Marble, Van Os Vintage Furniture Amsterdam, Monsak and Komoni.

This is Happening | Haarlemmerbuurt
Doing some late Christmas shopping the other month I finally popped in at 'This is happening' at Haarlemmerdijk. First thing noticed: a great interior consisting of steel frames, huge mirrors and a neon green room at the back, designed by Staat.
This is happening is more than a regular barber shop, inspired by the street fashion of the big cities they love to 'upgrade' your own style and not so much change. The combination of good hair, both for men and women, beautiful fashion labels, fine jewelry and cool gadgets makes this salon and store an inspirational place... I spotted some Nomess furniture and accessories, one of my favourite Scandinavian brands and found an amazing home fragrance!
